Abu Dhabi Port in focus

Abu Dhabi port

Khalifa Port has a Phase 1 capacity of 2.5 million TEU containers and 12 million tonnes of general cargo a year and an expected capacity of 15 million TEU containers and 35 million tonnes of general cargo by 2030. It features the region’s only semi-automated container terminal, some of the world’s largest automated ship-to-shore cranes.

Owned by Abu Dhabi Ports and operated by ADT (Abu Dhabi Terminals – a private joint stock company), Khalifa Port commenced operations in September 2012. Today, the port handles general cargo and all of Abu Dhabi’s container traffic. In its present development phase 1, the port has an annual capacity of 2.5 million TEUs and 12 million tons of general cargo. When all development phases are completed, Khalifa Port is expected to increase its capacity for container volumes to 15 million TEUs and 35 million tons of general cargo per year.

With market access to an estimated 4.5 billion people within four time zones, Khalifa Port can accommodate the biggest ships sailing the world’s oceans. Currently, the port serves over 20 shipping lines, offers direct services and direct connections to more than 52 international destinations as well as transshipment at the world’s main hubs.
